I know sometimes it can get boring looking at name after name after name, but they are there for a reason, and God has a specific reason for why they are there.
If I would like to know who my family members are and where they were from, and who their relatives were, I must have some kind of information on who their names are.
Recently, I had a friend found out that down the line was kin to another friend because he had looked at the genealogy of his family. I thought that was cool.
When you look at the genealogy of Genesis 5, you can't help but see where God raised another seed to bring his line through.
As you study chapter 4, you find that Cain has now become a Vagabond, Abel has been killed, and there is no other child to bring seed to Adam.
You know God wanted Adam and Eve to have children so he could bring through that line the salvation of mankind so God had to give them another child, and he did, his name was Seth.
In the genealogy of Seth, you find the name Enoch. The Bible states that Enoch walked with God (Genesis 5:22,24). That is an important statement that needs to be addressed. Although it mentions in the next chapter that Noah walked with God, this is the first mention of the phrase "walked with God."
I'm sure the generations before him knew of God and we may wonder if they lived a life of sin, The Bible doesn't say it, but we do know they didn't have a testimony that they walked with God.
Enoch, like most people, didn't start right. He lived sixty-five years before he started walking with God. Let me ask you, "How old do you need to be to realize the importance of walking with God?"
God may bring some tragedy to get your attention or may bring a treasure in your life to get your attention. For Enoch, it was the birth of a child. For you, it may be the death of a loved one, the firing of a job, or the financial strain of life. It could be like Enoch, a treasure that happens in your life.
Maybe you get married, and you realize the importance of being the head of the home and how you must be Christ like, and you know you can't understand who Christ is of you're not walking with him.
Maybe you and your wife have a child, and you now see the importance of walking with God because you want to raise that child up right.
When the apostles, Peter and John, stood before the Sanhedrin. The Sanhedrin said of Peter and John that they had been with Jesus. (Acts 4:13)
No matter where you are at in life, it's time to see the seriousness of walking with God.
Sadly, we have teenagers in the church who have been saved for a while but have never really walked with God. Why is this? Simply because they have not been taught how to walk with God. And let's not put this all on teenagers, I know adults who don't know how to walk with God, and they are in church week in and week out.
There was a change in Enoch, and he saw the importance of walking with God. Have you seen the importance, or are you waiting for a tragedy or treasure to take place in your life?
You can wait till those things happen, but James 4:17 tells us that if we know to do good and we don't do it, it's sin.
Are you living in sin today? Do you know that you should walk with God but are not? Maybe you need to walk a little closer, but you are not.
Enoch had something that happened that caused him to get him serious about his walk. Have you gotten serious about your walk?
Sadly, it's not mentioned about a lot of the genealogy that they walked with God, but one man chose to walk.
You may stand alone, but when you stand alone, you are not alone cause the Savior is standing with you.
I encourage you to get serious about your walk. You could stand out like Enoch that in the genealogy of your life, it could be said you walked with a God.
Wouldn't it be ashamed to have the testimony that you watched too much TV or you used bad language or didn't care about the things of God. So many have this testimony, but I am thankful we can have the testimony that we walked with God.
You're never too young to start your walk, and you're never too old to start walking.
How's your walk today?
Thank you for reading today's fire-starter devotional. I hope it was a blessing to you. If it was an encouragement, please pass it along to someone else who may be struggling with their walk or may need a reminder to continue walking. Please send your prayer request to
Justin@rtfministries.net by tomorrow evening to be placed on the prayer list.
Hope you have a wonderful day!
