Job Was A Great Man Because Of pt. 2

Justin Baker • October 1, 2022

We looked yesterday at how Job was a great man because of his stand. This morning I want us to look at the second reason Job was a great man.

Our Fire-starter comes from Job 1. Our Fire-starter thought is Job was a great man because of

Notice with me verse 8 of chapter 1.

Job 1:8 KJV

And the Lord said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil?

Now look at Job 2:3.

Job 2:3 KJV

And the Lord said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil? and still he holdeth fast his integrity, although thou movedst me against him, to destroy him without cause.

There was a reason God questioned Satan about Job. The main reason was he was a servant.

Job was a great man because of not only his Stand but I believe because of his servitude. He was a servant. I wonder how many of us would qualify as a servant?

"The master gets the praise for the servants work."

Servants are not the majority they are the minority. Pastors, deacons. Sunday school teacher. Bus captain, you are not called to be a somebody you and I are called to be a servant.

Servants are not called to be out in the spotlight. It's the servants that clean the church, that make sure the hymnal are straight, that make sure the preacher has water when he goes to the pulpit, that sweeps the bus, that's out all day on Saturday trying to get people signed up for the bus route, out soul-wining all day. It's the Job no one wants but it is the call that everyone that is a Christian has.

Servants will go do the dirty work so their master doesn't have to.

By the way, a profitable servant just doesn't do what has been required of him, he does more than what's required of him.

Notice with me Luke 17.

Luke 17:10 KJV

So likewise ye, when ye shall have done all those things which are commanded you, say, We are unprofitable servants: we have done that which was our duty to do.

How many of us just show up when we are required to show up and leave when we are required to leave. How many of us give out our requirement of gospel tracts, did our requirement study for the Sunday school lesson, did our requirement of calling one person when we could have done more?

There is a song called I wish I had given him more does this song sound like you? Are you a unprofitable servant? What made God call him a servant? I believe number one he was faithful. You see I do not think that God will call you his servant if you are not faithful. You can call yourself a servant of God all you want but I would much rather hear God call me a servant than me call myself a servant and sound boastful. But one thing is for sure if you ain't faithful you can forget about hearing servant when your name comes up in his presence.

"Isn't it a shame that Christ can call very few of his children servants? Don't get me wrong he calls all his children his children but very few children can he call servants."

Imagine with me Satan coming to God and God says have you considered and put your name there. Would it be a shame that all he could say was Hast thou considered my child ______? Or could he say with joy, Hast thou considered my servant_____?

I'm amazed at the people that call themselves preachers and Sunday school teachers and Christian workers that claim they are servants and they never serve. A church needs a pastor, well I can't because that's out of my 50 mile limit. A Sunday school class needs to be started and you hear. Why can't I have the Sunday school class that has already been established? Or the bus route needs continued after the long break of the bus ministry, well, I will pray for someone to take that.

Friend, pastor, Sunday school teacher, bus captain or whoever needs to hear this , the well done thou good and faithful servant is not to the child that is lazy, arrogant, money grabber, sit on the pew doing nothing child. You might as well step out of the way and let someone that's willing to do something for God whether they get paid for it or not. You ain't a servant you are someone that stands in the way of a servant doing what a servant does and that's serve.

Have you thought maybe the reason the servant hasn't been able to start the Sunday school that he or she wants is because you've already said you wanted to do it yet you have not even started it yet? Move out of the way!!!!! Brothers, and sisters hinder other brothers and sisters due to their selfish wills.

God isn't going to say we'll done thou children, he is going to say we'll done thou good and faithful servant. Remember that.

"It's a shame God has children that are not servants. The servants will be able to hear well done, not the ones that are just the children."- Justin Baker

Yes you may be a child but are you a servant? There is a difference.

Job 1:1-22 KJV

There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job; and that man was perfect and upright, and one that feared God, and eschewed evil. [2] And there were born unto him seven sons and three daughters. [3] His substance also was seven thousand sheep, and three thousand camels, and five hundred yoke of oxen, and five hundred she asses, and a very great household; so that this man was the greatest of all the men of the east. [4] And his sons went and feasted in their houses, every one his day; and sent and called for their three sisters to eat and to drink with them. [5] And it was so, when the days of their feasting were gone about, that Job sent and sanctified them, and rose up early in the morning, and offered burnt offerings according to the number of them all: for Job said, It may be that my sons have sinned, and cursed God in their hearts. Thus did Job continually. [6] Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the Lord, and Satan came also among them. [7] And the Lord said unto Satan, Whence comest thou? Then Satan answered the Lord, and said, From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it. [8] And the Lord said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil? [9] Then Satan answered the Lord, and said, Doth Job fear God for nought? [10] Hast not thou made an hedge about him, and about his house, and about all that he hath on every side? thou hast blessed the work of his hands, and his substance is increased in the land. [11] But put forth thine hand now, and touch all that he hath, and he will curse thee to thy face. [12] And the Lord said unto Satan, Behold, all that he hath is in thy power; only upon himself put not forth thine hand. So Satan went forth from the presence of the Lord. [13] And there was a day when his sons and his daughters were eating and drinking wine in their eldest brother's house: [14] And there came a messenger unto Job, and said, The oxen were plowing, and the asses feeding beside them: [15] And the Sabeans fell upon them, and took them away; yea, they have slain the servants with the edge of the sword; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee. [16] While he was yet speaking, there came also another, and said, The fire of God is fallen from heaven, and hath burned up the sheep, and the servants, and consumed them; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee. [17] While he was yet speaking, there came also another, and said, The Chaldeans made out three bands, and fell upon the camels, and have carried them away, yea, and slain the servants with the edge of the sword; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee. [18] While he was yet speaking, there came also another, and said, Thy sons and thy daughters were eating and drinking wine in their eldest brother's house: [19] And, behold, there came a great wind from the wilderness, and smote the four corners of the house, and it fell upon the young men, and they are dead; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee. [20] Then Job arose, and rent his mantle, and shaved his head, and fell down upon the ground, and worshipped, [21] And said, Naked came I out of my mother's womb, and naked shall I return thither: the Lord gave, and the Lord hath taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord. [22] In all this Job sinned not, nor charged God foolishly.
